This book is designed to provide teaching preparation references for teachers using the Easy Steps to Chinese (2nd Edition) series of textbooks. Additionally, it offers answers to most exercises in the textbook and workbook. When guiding teachers on using the textbook and workbook for instruction, we have also provided supplementary materials for some exercises to enable teachers to strengthen practice when needed.

At the beginning of each unit, teaching objectives and key points are listed to help teachers grasp the focus during lesson planning and instruction, so as to achieve the unit’s teaching goals. To comprehensively test students’ mastery of unit content, relevant language knowledge, and language skills, we have designed quizzes for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These unit quizzes refer to the question formats of public Chinese language examinations in various countries, striving to assess students’ authentic command of Chinese knowledge and communicative competence.

In the teaching process, if teachers do not have sufficient time to test students’ four skills after completing each unit, testing two of them is also a good approach. For example, teachers can prepare listening and writing tests after the first unit, and examine speaking and reading abilities after the second unit. In short, teachers can assess students’ comprehensive or individual skills as needed, while also evaluating teaching effectiveness.

Each volume of the Teacher’s Book provides audio recordings for listening quizzes. Teachers can scan the QR code on the first page of each unit quiz to obtain the listening audio for that unit, and download and print the unit quizzes for student use. Teachers can determine the score for each question and the total score of the unit quiz according to actual circumstances.

About the Author
Ms. Yamin Ma has an M.Ed. in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Queen’s University, Canada. She used to teach English at both secondary and university levels in Shanghai (China), Hong Kong (China) and Kingston (Canada) for over 10 years and has taught Chinese at primary and secondary levels in Hong Kong (China) for more than 20 years. Ms. Ma has been the Head of the Chinese Department in Island School (located in Hong Kong, China) for over two decades and has taught IGCSE, AS/A-Levels and IB Language B courses.

Easy Steps to Chinese (2nd Edition) refers to the vocabulary and grammar syllabi, language and skill requirements, and examination formats of major international mainstream tests, assisting students in preparing for various public exams and achieving excellent results. The content design is meticulously structured in the following aspects:

Pinyin appears on top of characters at an early stage and is gradually removed as the students develop their Chinese profi-ciency. The teaching of pronunciation with corresponding exer-cises is designed systematically and scientifically.

The series stresses the importance of teaching basic strokes and compound strokes, stroke order, radicals and character structures. Character writing exercises are provided to reinforce the learning of characters.

In order for the students to better understand and more easily memorize the new words and phrases, an attempt has been made to ensure that only one character in each phrase is new, and only one meaning of this new character is given. For each lesson, new words and phrases are listed generally according to the order that they appear in the text; however, some phrases containing the same character are listed together for ease of learning.

Vocabulary expansion is made possible through a good under-standing of the meaning of each character in a phrase. Some of the words that appear in earlier stages are repeated and prac-ticed in later stages to reinforce and consolidate the learning.

Grammatical rules are explained in a simple manner, followed by practice exercises in contexts.

Themes are varied and relevant to students’ real life, and are carefully selected according to students’ age group, interest and level of Chinese in each stage.

Listening exercises are evenly spread out in each lesson. The listening script uses the same topic and vocabulary as in the lesson, while adding some new words that appropriately chal-lenge the students.

Speaking exercises take various forms that are interesting and relevant to students’ life so that the students are able to develop communication skills in real-life situations.

Reading materials cover a wide range of topics, such as daily life, humanities, arts, history, geography, new technology, en-vironmental protection, etc. The themes of reading are varied and the texts are authentic in nature.

Writing training starts at the outset and remains a focal point throughout the series. The students are expected to use different styles and apply what they have learned in the course to write appropriately, precisely, logically and coherently.

本书旨在为使用《轻松学中文》（第二版）系列教材的教师提供备课参考，此外，还提供课本和练习册中大部分练习的答案。在指导教师运用课本和练习册教学时，我们还为一些练习配备了补充材料，以便教师在需要加强练习时使用。

在每个单元的开头，我们列出了教学目标和教学重点，以便教师在备课时及教学中能抓住重点，达到本单元的教学目标。为了全面测试学生对各个单元内容和相关语言知识、语言技能的掌握情况，我们设计了听力（Listening）、口语（Speaking）、阅读（Reading）和写作（Writing） 测验题。这些单元测验题参考了各国中文公开考试的考题形式，力求检测出学生真实的中文知识掌握情况和语言交际能力。

作者简介
马亚敏，于加拿大女王大学（Queen’s University）获得教育硕士，主修课程设计及教学。在过去30余年的教育生涯中，她先后在中国上海、中国香港和加拿大金斯顿的中学和大学教授过十余年英语，并在中国香港的国际学校（小学和中学）教授过二十多年汉语。她在中国香港的港岛中学担任中文部主任二十余年，教授过IGCSE、AS/A-Levels和IB语言B课程。
