Shi King (Shijing - Book of Songs) is one of the earliest poetry collections in the world and contains Chinese poems from the 11th to 6th centuries BC. From the original more than 3000 poems Confucius selected 305 pieces and put them together to the present collection. The Schi King consists of three parts. The main stylistic devices are Fu (description), Bi (metaphor) and Xing (evocation of feelings). The present translation is the only complete German edition to date, written by Viktor von Strauss (1809-1899). Translated into modern Chinese by Cheng Junying and Jiang Jianyuan. Includes classic original text, modern Chinese translation and German translation.
