Special Chinese - Literature

This teaching material is a special purpose Chinese course for advanced learners of Chinese preparing to study Chinese literature, film, media or journalism at universities in China or are for other reasons interested in the professional terminology of these fields.

Contemporary Chinese Literature is an elective course book in the Erya Chinese series. This book combines teaching of literary history with appreciation of literary writers and works, containing an overview of contemporary Chinese literature and covering various literary forms such as fiction, prose, poetry and drama. Classical writers and works are included for introduction and appreciation. Apart from the text, there are other sections in each lesson, i.e. vocabulary notes, reading tips, cultural notes, classroom discussion, after-class exercises, brief summary and extracurricular reading tips, aiming to assist readers in better learning and using the book.

This book contains 40 prose masterpieces by 30 great masters of the Six Dynasties. The works are arranged in the chronological order of the late Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms, the Jin Dynasty, and the Southern and Northern Dynasties to better reflect the course and achievements of prose development during the Wei, Jin, Southern, and Northern Dynasties.
