Erya Chinese—Basic Chinese: Comprehensive Course is suitable for foreigners who plan to take an undergraduate program of Chinese. Used as a textbook for the compulsory course—comprehensive Chinese course, it is divided into two sub-volumes, each with 16 lessons. The first eight lessons teach pronunciation and Lessons 9-32 teach grammar. Each lesson is comprised by such parts as the Learning Tips, Text, New Words, Note(s), Grammar, Communication, Writing, Pronunciation, Characters, Activity, Cultural Note, Summary, etc. Each unit is composed of four lessons and has a summary of grammar notes and a unit review starting Lesson 9.

Both Books 1 and 2 are accompanied by loose-leaf worksheets.

《尔雅中文》是面向留学生的汉语言专业本科系列教材,由北京语言大学汉语学院一线教师编创,入选“十二五”国家重点出版物出版规划项目。
    
《尔雅中文 基础汉语综合教程》适合汉语言专业的留学生在预科阶段使用,是其必修课——汉语综合课的教材。分为上、下两册,每册16课,1-8课为语音阶段,9-32课为语法阶段。每课由“学习提示、热身活动、课文、生词、注释、语法、情景交际、写作、语音、汉字、实践活动、文化点滴、学习后记”等板块构成。4课为一个单元,从第9课起每个单元配有语法总结和单元练习。
    
上、下册都配有与教材内容对应的练习活页。

本教材继承北京语言大学编写综合教材的传统,以语音为基础,以句法结构为纲,兼顾交际功能和文化。结构、功能、文化相结合是本教材的编写原则。教材在语音练习的设计上注重实用性,在语法的引入及操练、课文的编写、课后练习的设计上都注重交际性,尽量设置真实情景,融合功能与文化,力求做到三方面的结合。
