Discover the province Sichuan with its unique scenic spots. In the Happy China Sichuan Edition four sensational treasures - all belonging to UNESCO world heritage - are presented: Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, Huanglong Scenic Area, one of the Buddhist sacred mountains Mt. Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area.

 Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. Reputed as the "wonderland of fairy tales" (童话世界), Jiuzhaigou is located in Jiuzhaigou County, central south of Aba Autonomous Prefecture of Tibetan and Qiang Nationalities, Sichuan Province, China. It is a branch gully from the Jialing River, a ramification of the Yangtze River. It is so named because there are nine Tibetan villages such as Heye, Shushing and Peshawar etc. The scenic area has an elevation from 2,000 to 3,100 meters. The climate is pleasant whole year round, thus it is one of the world's best tourist scenic spots. In 1992, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area was included into the Directory of World Cultural Heritages. In 1977, it was approved as a world nature reserve. Jiuzhaigou, a wonderland full of dreams and fairy tales, is the land gifted by nature and the spiritual home for mankind.

  Huanglong. Huanglong Scenic Area is about 300km from Chengdu. It comprises the main scenic area and other tourist spots like Danyunxia, Hongxingyan, Xuebaoding, Mounigou and ancient town of Songpan. Covering a total area of 1,340 square kilometers, Huanglong Scenic Area is best known for its "Five Wonders", namely: colored ponds, river beaches, snow mountains, and canyons and forests. More than 3,000 pearl-like colorful ponds in eight groups at different levels resemble the scales of a giant golden dragon, glittering with fantastic lights. Hence Huanglong scenic area is affectionately called the "holy wonderland and Heavenly Palace on earth".

Mount Emei. Mt. Emei is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province. The highest peak Wanfoding is 3099m above sea level. Having gone through 872 million years of evolving process, Mt. Emei erects straight on the land of China. It it best known for its beautiful natural landscape, various species of plants, and long-standing Buddhist culture. Characterized by its grandeur, elegance, mysteries and uniqueness, Mt. Emei earned its place in the Directory of World Cultural and Natural Heritages in december of 1996. Mt. Emei is regarded as the highest of the Five Holy Mountains. The four wonders - the sea of clouds, sight of sunrise, Buddhist Halo and Holy lights - can be seen atop the Golden Summit. Mt. Emei has four seasons in a day and different weathers within ten li. One can feel the beauty of Mt. Emei by enjoying the ever-changing sceneries, the colorful shades and beautiful sounds of nature.

Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area. Located at the junction of the Min River, Qingyi River and Dadu River, Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area is a world cultural and natural heritage. The scenic area covers 17.88 square kilometers and has many attractions such as the Giant Buddha of Leshan (乐山大佛), the world's biggest stone sitting Buddha statue, the Giant Sleeping Buddha (巨型睡佛) with its miraculous work by nature and man, the Wuyou Temple on the Isolated Hill, the Mahao Cliff niches dated back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Oriental Capital of Buddhism with a collection of Buddhist arts and the ruins of ancient battlefield in Yuan and Song Dynasties. Surrounded by hills and rivers, dotted with historical and cultural relics, this area resembles a natural scroll of landscape paintings.

About the textbook
This book uses simplified Chinese characters and English annotations. Pinyin annotation is provided in the new words list only. Apart from the language materials presented in the program, Words and Expressions, Notes Substitution Drills and Conversations are provided in each book of the series, among which Words and Expressions and Notes are accompanied with brief English translations or explanations. Each book also includes brief introductions and photos of corresponding scenic spots and travel guides.
